Is There a Letterboxd for TV Shows? Rank Shows and Films (2026)

Letterboxd is where a lot of people keep their film life: the diary, the reviews, the lists. What it does not do yet is returning TV series. If you want your shows in the same place as your films, here is where things stand and what you can use today.

The short answer

Shortlist, if you want your TV shows and your films ranked in one app.

Each show is compared with ones you have already ranked, two at a time, and your movies and your series each get their own ordered list, scored 0 to 10.

Want the fair comparison first, or to bring your Letterboxd films over? Both are below.

Does Letterboxd Support TV Shows?

Not returning series, not yet. Letterboxd’s own help center says it does not support “returning” TV shows at this time and is working on them as a future platform extension. It does carry a small selection of limited series, miniseries and TV movies, for historical reasons. (Letterboxd help center, “Do you support TV shows?”, last edited June 2, 2026.)

So if you finished a season last night and want to log it next to the film you saw on Friday, you need a second app for now, or one that does both.

How Do Letterboxd and Shortlist Compare?

They are built around different ideas. Letterboxd is a film diary with a big community around it. Shortlist is a ranking app for movies and TV: instead of rating a title with stars, you decide which of two you liked more.

What Letterboxd is great at is real: years of diary entries, reviews worth reading and lists people put real care into. Shortlist does not try to replace that writing culture. What it adds is TV, and an order: a list where every film and every show sits above or below another because you said so.

One honest limit: Shortlist is not an episode tracker. If what you want is Letterboxd’s format for television, with episode logs and season reviews, Serializd is built for exactly that. The Letterboxd alternatives guide compares it with seven other apps, Shortlist included.

How Does Ranking TV Shows Work in Shortlist?

  1. Step 1

    Add a show

Search for any series and give it a first reaction: Loved it, It was okay or Not for me. That starts it at 9.0, 6.3 or 3.5 out of 10.

  2. Step 2

    Pick the better of two

Shortlist shows the new series next to one already on your TV list and asks which you liked more. Each answer narrows down where it belongs.

  3. Step 3

    Watch the list sort itself

After a few picks the show lands in its place, and its score comes from that place. Only your number one can reach a perfect 10.

Shows only ever meet other shows, so a sitcom never has to beat a war film. The new title is only compared with the few near where it belongs, so adding one more series to a list of twenty takes four or five taps. You can also mark what you are currently watching, and your friends see it in their feed.

Can You Bring Your Letterboxd Films With You?

You do not have to start your films from zero. In the Shortlist iPhone app, open Settings > Switch from Letterboxd and choose the export file from your Letterboxd account. It brings over the films you have watched, your star ratings and your watchlist. Your stars put each film on a starting shelf (Loved, Okay or Not for me), and a few head-to-heads put each shelf in your order.

Reviews, lists and likes stay on Letterboxd, and the file stays on your phone. Your TV list starts fresh, since a Letterboxd export has no returning series in it. The import is in the iPhone app now and coming to Android. The step-by-step import guide walks through the export.

Nothing stops you using both, either: keep your diary and reviews on Letterboxd, and keep the ranking of everything you watch, films and shows, in Shortlist.

Is The New York Times Buying Letterboxd?

On November 5, 2026, The New York Times reported that the New York Times Company is in exclusive talks to buy Letterboxd for roughly $330 million. No deal had been announced as final. (TechCrunch, November 5, 2026.)

Letterboxd for TV Shows FAQ

Is there a Letterboxd for TV shows?

Letterboxd itself does not log returning TV series yet; its help center says TV is being worked on as a future platform extension. Shortlist, a free app for iPhone and Android, ranks TV shows in their own list beside your films. If you want episode logs and season reviews instead, Serializd is a TV-only app built around those.

Does Letterboxd support TV shows?

Not returning series. Letterboxd's help center (last edited June 2, 2026) says it does not support returning TV shows at this time and is working on them as a future platform extension. It does carry a small selection of limited series, miniseries and TV movies.

How do I rank TV shows in an app?

In Shortlist, you add a show, give it a first reaction (Loved it, It was okay or Not for me), then pick the better of two shows a few times. Each pick narrows down where it belongs, so it lands in your TV ranking with a 0 to 10 score that comes from its place. Shows are only ever compared with other shows.

Can I import my Letterboxd history into Shortlist?

Yes, in the Shortlist app for iPhone. Open Settings > Switch from Letterboxd and choose the export file from your Letterboxd account. It brings over the films you have watched, your star ratings and your watchlist. Reviews, lists and likes are not imported, and the import is coming to the Android app.

Can I use Letterboxd and Shortlist together?

Yes. Shortlist never signs in to Letterboxd, so nothing on your Letterboxd account changes. You can keep your diary and reviews on Letterboxd and use Shortlist to rank everything you watch, films and TV shows.

Is Shortlist free?

Yes. Shortlist is free on iPhone and Android, with separate ranked lists for movies and TV shows, a friends activity feed and a score from the people you follow on every title.

Shortlist is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Letterboxd. Letterboxd is a trademark of its owner, named here only to describe it and to explain the import.
