The Complete Fast & Furious Tier List
No franchise has reinvented itself quite like Fast & Furious. What began in 2001 as a gritty street-racing drama became, by Fast Five, the most gloriously over-the-top action saga in Hollywood, one where cars fly out of planes, drag a vault through Rio, and eventually reach orbit. Here are all eleven films in the Fast Saga ranked, split into classic S/A/B/C/D tiers. Think Letty deserves better? Settle it yourself in minutes with Shortlist.
Fast Five
(2011)The pivot from street racing to heist blockbuster. Adding Dwayne Johnson and the Rio vault chase transformed the franchise into what it is today, the best entry, full stop.
Furious 7
(2015)The emotional peak. The cars-from-a-plane stunt is the series at its most absurd, and the Paul Walker tribute ending is genuinely moving.
Fast & Furious 6
(2013)The runway that never ends, the tank chase, and Letty's return. Peak ridiculous-fun "family" era.
The Fast and the Furious
(2001)The grounded original. Pure early-2000s street-racing cool, the film that started a 20-year saga.
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
(2006)A franchise outlier that aged into a cult favorite. Han's introduction and the drift aesthetic are iconic.
The Fate of the Furious
(2017)Charlize Theron's Cipher and the "zombie cars" set piece keep it fun, even as the plots get sillier.
Fast & Furious
(2009)The reunion film that brought the original cast back and set up the modern era. The tunnel chase rips.
Hobbs & Shaw
(2019)A breezy buddy-action spinoff. Johnson and Statham's chemistry carries a lighter, more comic adventure.
F9
(2021)They literally go to space. Bombastic and exhausting in equal measure, with a divisive magnet-car gimmick.
Fast X
(2023)Jason Momoa's flamboyant villain is the highlight of an overstuffed, cliffhanger-heavy penultimate chapter.
2 Fast 2 Furious
(2003)No Vin Diesel, more neon. A goofy, lightweight sequel that's the weakest of the main saga.

How to Build Your Own Fast & Furious Tier List
Everyone agrees Fast Five and Furious 7 sit near the top and 2 Fast 2 Furious near the bottom: it's the middle that starts the arguments. Is Tokyo Drift underrated? Does F9's trip to space sink it? The fastest way to settle it is head-to-head:
- Open Shortlist and search for each Fast & Furious film by name.
- Add them to a ranking: create a custom "Fast Saga" list so it only contains these movies.
- Compare head-to-head: the app shows you two films at a time. Pick the one you prefer. That's it.
- Watch your tier list form: your complete Fast & Furious ranking builds itself in a couple of minutes.
- Share it: every ranking gets a shareable link. Post it, argue about it, send it to the group chat.

What Order Should You Watch the Fast & Furious Movies In?
For most viewers, release order is the way to go, with one famous catch. Tokyo Drift (2006) was released third but, chronologically, most of its events happen after Fast & Furious 6 (2013). If you want strict timeline order, watch Tokyo Drift between 6 and Furious 7. If you just want the best experience, release order works fine and is how the cast cameos and callbacks were designed to land.
Fast & Furious Tier List FAQ
What is the best Fast & Furious movie?
Fast Five (2011) is the consensus best: it's where the franchise transformed from street racing into heist-blockbuster spectacle, added Dwayne Johnson, and delivered the legendary Rio vault chase. Furious 7 is the strongest emotional entry and a close second.
How many Fast & Furious movies are there?
There are 11 films in total: ten main-saga entries (The Fast and the Furious through Fast X) plus the spinoff Hobbs & Shaw. A final main-saga chapter is in development to close out the story.
Is Tokyo Drift connected to the other movies?
Yes: it was a standalone outlier at first, but the franchise later wove it into the main timeline through Han (Sung Kang), making it a crucial bridge film. It's one of the most-debated entries on any Fast Saga tier list.
Should I rank Hobbs & Shaw with the main movies?
That's up to you: it's a spinoff rather than a main-saga entry, so some fans rank it separately. We've included it here, and in Shortlist you can keep it in or leave it out of your custom list however you prefer.
