Where Spider-Man: Brand New Day Lands

Spider-Man: Brand New Day opened in theaters on July 31, 2026, and it enters this list in A tier. That placement is provisional, and it is made on reception rather than on a rewatch, because this page has one rule it will not bend: S tier means staying power, and no film can demonstrate staying power in its opening week. The same rule kept The Odyssey out of S on our Christopher Nolan list in July despite a higher Tomatometer than anything else Nolan has made.

The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi) and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the pair who wrote all three of Tom Holland's previous solo films. What makes its opening numbers worth reading closely is not the headline score but the split underneath it.

Brand New Day is the lowest-reviewed of Tom Holland's four solo films by critics at 90%, and the highest-rated of the four by audiences at 98%. That +8 gap is the widest of the four, and it is double the gap on No Way Home, a film built end to end for a crowd. A split that shape usually means a film delivered hard on what its fans specifically wanted and gave the general reviewer less to admire, which is precisely the profile of a movie that ages either very well or not at all. Two years from now it belongs in S or in B. A tier is where we hold it until a rewatch settles that.

The premise explains some of the split. Brand New Day picks up directly from the ending of No Way Home: Doctor Strange's spell erased Peter Parker from the memory of everyone alive, and the new film finds him four years later, anonymous, protecting New York at street level while his powers evolve in a way the studio called "surprising and potentially dangerous." Tom Holland and Zendaya return alongside Jacob Batalon, and the supporting cast is a hard turn toward the street-level corners of the comics: Jon Bernthal's Punisher, Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner, Sadie Sink, Michael Mando finally paying off the Scorpion tease from Homecoming, and Marvin Jones III as Tombstone. It is the first Spider-Man film in the series with no multiverse and no sky beam, and the audience that has been asking for exactly that appears to have gotten it.

How Long Does It Take to Watch Every Spider-Man Movie?

Every Spider-Man film, with its theatrical runtime. If you are still catching up before your Brand New Day screening, the totals underneath are the ones that matter, and every one of them excludes the new film itself.

A complete Spider-Man marathon is 24h 37m. That is the whole character on film, in one sitting, which almost nobody should attempt. The useful numbers are the smaller ones:

• The full catch-up, live action only: 17h 55m across the 8 live-action films that came before it. The two Spider-Verse movies are a separate, self-contained Miles Morales story and have no bearing on Brand New Day.
• The sensible catch-up: 6h 50m for the Tom Holland trilogy. Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home are the continuous story Brand New Day continues as a fourth chapter.
• The minimum: 2h 28m. Rewatch No Way Home and you have everything the new film builds on, because it starts from that film's final scene.

Put differently: the difference between the minimum and the sensible catch-up is about four hours, and the difference between the sensible catch-up and watching all 11 is most of a working day.
